Background

About the official regulatory examinations

Official competency examinations

The Regulatory Examinations are official competency examinations for the South African financial services industry and are conducted under the direction and management of the FSCA.

What they assess

They are designed to assess candidates' knowledge, understanding and application of relevant legislation, subordinate legislation and codes of conduct.

Separate from our service

The examination itself is entirely separate from our tutoring service. We prepare you for it; the official examination body sets, administers and marks it.

What to expect

Examination format

Know the mechanics before you sit down — it removes a surprising amount of exam-day pressure.

  • The examinations consist of multiple-choice questions.
  • The examinations are closed-book.
  • Candidates are not permitted to take study material into the examination room.
  • Each question has four answer options.
  • There is one correct answer per question.
  • There is no negative marking.
  • Read both the question and all available answer options carefully.
  • Questions can test different levels of knowledge, understanding, application and analysis.
  • Always prepare using the latest applicable legislation.
